“Don’t waste another minute of your life without hearing aids and Dr JJ. The technology is amazing.”

“As like many others, I ignored the fact my hearing was not good and always thought my only issue was not being able to hear the TV. My biggest concern was hearing aids make you look old.

“My fear was that I would not get used to wearing hearing aids or my glasses would make them uncomfortable.

“Dr. JJ seemed to take me under his wing quickly and eased any fears or concerns I had.

“The first thing I tell everyone is I “should have done this sooner” I realized quickly how much sound I was missing. My marriage is much better, and I never realized how many songbirds are around my property.

“Don’t waste another minute of your life without hearing aids and Dr JJ. The technology is amazing.

“It’s the best investment you can make. The sounds of nature will say it all.”

– Charlie

“Now I hear things I haven’t heard in years. I can be in a conversation and understand what everyone is saying.”

“I have known for years that I had a loss of hearing of my high pitch. I was being tested annually at work so that’s how I knew it was high pitch. After I retired in 2012, I wasn’t getting tested anymore and it seemed to get worse.

“My biggest concern was I would get irritated at people talking to me thinking that it was their fault that I couldn’t hear what they were saying because they were not speaking up loud enough.

“My two biggest concerns of course were how much they cost and would they just simplify turn up the volume and just make everything louder. I have tried those types of hearing aids and they were very annoying. I also have Tinnitus so that makes it more complicated.

“I was skeptical at first, but my family insisted I get checked because it was getting out of hand that I had to keep asking people to repeat themselves.

“Also, between the Tinnitus and hearing loss, I had to have the TV up high with the close captioning on all the time.

“But after my hearing test, Dr. Martinez explained in detail the issues with my hearing and how they can adjust the pitches specifically to each of my ears and also how they make a mold to fit my ears exactly.

“It took a while to get used to my hearing aids but now I can hear things I haven’t heard for years. I can be in a conversation and understand what everyone is saying and not have to embarrass myself by asking them to repeat themselves.

“I no longer need the close captioning on the TV and also have the volume down where it’s comfortable for everyone.

“Sometimes I hear things a little too much like when my wife gets ice from the refrigerator door, I have to mute my hearing aids because it is too loud. I think that’s because I can now hear the high pitches I haven’t heard in years.

“I tried several different hearing centers, and this is the only center I found that builds the hearing aids specifically for my hearing loss. They bring you back on a regular basis to make adjustments to bring your range of hearing back to normal a little at a time.

“I am very pleased with the time that Dr. Martinez took to explain everything. I would recommend this center to anyone with hearing loss.

“You don’t realize how bad your hearing loss really is until you’ve worn the right hearing aids. Then you find out what you are missing.”

– Rocky

“Hearing aids aren’t like they were back in the day when they were so bulky. You can barely see them.”

“Throughout the years, I knew that I favored my left ear over my right ear. I didn’t realize it was really bad until I rolled over in bed. I immediately knew I had hearing loss in my right ear because I could no longer hear the tv when I rolled over.

“Knowing my father has almost 100% hearing loss, I knew I had to do something. I learned I also had it in my left ear which was surprising.

“My only concern was if hearing loss was or can be hereditary since it runs in my family.

“Dr. Martinez was so personable and made me feel at ease. He answered all of my questions and I knew my options by the time my appointment was over.

“I’m amazed at how much I couldn’t hear, but now with hearing aids I hear everything so clearly. Hearing aids aren’t like they were back in the day when they were so bulky. You can barely see them.

“If you know that you have hearing loss, you might not realize how much you’re missing. I highly recommend Dr. Martinez and his staff at SLENT.”

– Tammy

“Dr. Martinez will make sure you are properly fitted with the correct aids to really improve your ability to hear what’s going on around you”

Catherine first came to terms with her hearing loss when it began to affect her socially.

She often felt “left out because I didn’t know what people were saying” and she “could not be a part of the conversation.”

This made her feel very low, and she was worried that there would be no help for her.

When she visited SLENT, she was “welcomed by the friendly staff” and was particularly impressed with Dr. Martinez who was “professional in his knowledge of the hearing aids he recommends.”

Since having her devices fitted, she can now “hear the conversation” and in certain situations, she can use her iPhone to adjust the reception.

While Catherine understands that it takes time to achieve better hearing, she believes that SLENT is the best place to start.

While hearing loss can often be disguised for many years, Betty first came to terms with her hearing loss when she was at a staff meeting and “was unable to hear the full message of the meeting.”

Her knowledge of hearing aids wasn’t huge, and her biggest concern was the “availability of new and improved hearing aids.”

However, any fears she had soon disappeared when she visited SLENT, and she was impressed with “the kindness and professionalism of Dr. Martinez.”

Betty encourages others to visit SLENT and wishes them the best of luck in their journey.

“Very professional, knowledgeable, and helpful”

For Bobby, he followed down this familiar pathway and it was his family that first pointed it out.

“My family realized that I had a hearing problem, I was still in denial about my hearing loss.”

Upon visiting SLENT Hearing & Balance Center, he was massively impressed with how “Very professional, knowledgeable, and helpful” the whole team was.

“I can understand why they are needed and would encourage others to contact SLENT”

While Ed didn’t initially notice the effects of his hearing loss, he found it was a “gradual process” and soon he could notice the distinct changes in his hearing.

However, after wearing hearing aids for four months, he can “understand that they were needed” and would “encourage others to contact SLENT”.

“Please swallow hard, take the big first step. It’s a very emotional journey, one of great stubbornness and pride.

“As a child, I had frequent hearing tests due to a speech impediment. That was about 55 years ago. Since then, I was diagnosed with definite high-frequency loss in the 90s.

“Initially, I was afraid of acknowledging hearing loss as a “failure” or “aging”. However, everyone at SLENT are such friendly people, they made me feel at ease.

“This is my second go-round with hearing aids. Back in the ’90s, I tried for a year to adapt. It didn’t work for me.

“I chose to donate my hearing aids specifically for a child with hearing needs. Unfortunately, now my hearing is impaired in both ears significantly.

“The newer aids have greater capabilities and improved communications.”

“Please swallow hard, take the big first step. It’s a very emotional journey, one of great stubbornness and pride.

“To reinforce the need to get over myself, I reflect on the infants and children with loss they may never have. I have been fortunate to have my capabilities throughout my life even if they were not 100%.”

– Irene

“Absolutely make an appointment and give them a chance to help you. You will not be sorry.”

“I knew my hearing was not as good as it used to be. One night I stayed with a relative in the hospital and it confirmed what I had already known. It was then I knew I needed to do something.

“SLENT came highly recommended by my cousin. She recently had been tested and is now wearing hearing aids.

“I remember my first impressions vividly. We were welcomed by Dr. M Corneille, and she was so patient and kind. She spoiled me from the first hearing test.

“I hear so much clearer and I’m not asking everyone to repeat what they said. Over and over. I’m spoiled for my hearing aids now and look forward to putting them on. It’s so easy.

“Absolutely make an appointment and give them a chance to help you. You will not be sorry.”

“Dr. Martinez is the epitome of a caring and supremely competent professional and he is an absolute sweetheart!”

While most people get away with disguising their hearing loss for many years, Jean found it very difficult, and it began to affect her day-to-day life.

“I feared that I would be unable to hear my elementary school-aged clients and respond appropriately. I am a retired clinical social worker.”

However, she was initially wary due to her experiences with hearing aid providers previously.

“I had tried a hearing aid provider about a year before being referred to SLENT by my primary care physician. It was a truly awful experience, and I was leery of being treated as a product purchaser rather than a patient.”

While this one negative experience could’ve put her off hearing providers completely, she decided to visit SLENT Hearing & Balance, and her opinion soon changed.

“The staff were warm, welcoming, and extremely competent. Dr. Martinez is the epitome of a caring and supremely competent professional and he is an absolute sweetheart!”

Making the decision to invest in hearing aids was not easy, but she is so glad that she took the plunge and did something about her hearing.

“I continue to appreciate how very much my hearing aids impact my emotional, social and behavioral life each time I am not wearing them and find myself trying to communicate with another person.

“I revert to those old habits of nodding my head and smiling when I have not understood what the person said or asking them to repeat and feeling what I perceive as their impatience, disapproval, disgust with me.”

Jean encourages others in her position to “make an appointment immediately!! Dr. Martinez and his staff are the best!”

– Jean

“At first my hearing loss was just an annoyance, but it became more of a problem as time went on.

“You always hear of people who have had issues, but I have a close friend who has had them for two years. When I mentioned I was ready to get some, she was so positive that I felt reassured.

“The staff were so caring and trustworthy.

“I should have gotten them sooner. It’s so nice to hear every word instead of every three words.

“By all means go to SLENT. They are so kind and caring and anxious to help.”

– Jeanne

“You have nothing to lose and much to gain.”

While Jim may have suffered with hearing loss for many years, it was when he started to “struggle in ordinary conversations” that he recognized the severity of his concerns.

Upon visiting, the first thing he noticed about SLENT Hearing & Balance was how “exceptionally caring and attentive” the whole team was.

“I didn’t initially realize how serious it was until I went to SLENT and I’m so glad I did.”

While there were many signs throughout Lorraine’s life to indicate her poor hearing, it wasn’t until her family pointed it out that she recognized the severity.

She has been a patient of SLENT since 2014 and completed a hearing test with us. From there, she was diagnosed with a high-frequency loss in both ears.

While this was a lot to take in, her biggest concern was that she “needed to do something about it so I could live a better life.”

“I didn’t initially realize how serious it was until I went to SLENT and I’m so glad I did. My biggest concern is not being able to hear or pay attention to someone.

“My first impression of SLENT was I knew I made the right decision. The doctors and staff are very professional and treated me as a patient and not just a number.

“Any time I had an issue either with my ears in general or my hearing aids they were there for me and got me right in.”

Looking back, hearing aids have made a huge difference to her life.

“You cannot function without being able to hear. My hearing aids definitely make a world of difference.

“I would definitely recommend SLENT!”

“Don’t wait. Life is much too short, and I don’t want to miss any part of it. Including its sounds.”

The pandemic has presented many challenges for people with hearing loss.

In some ways, it has helped those with untreated hearing loss recognize that they have a problem that requires treatment. For Maria, this was exactly the case.

“When I went to see my doctor, we were both wearing masks and he commented, “you can’t read my lips!” That’s when I knew, as did he, that I needed my hearing checked.

Choosing who to partner with as your hearing care provider can be a tough decision, but Maria was extremely glad she went with a “professional, warm and caring” team that are “all about patient care.”

When she put her hearing aids on for the first time it was a life-changing moment which she will never forget. She recalls it vividly.

“From the moment I put them on I heard sounds I did not realize I heard sounds I had been missing. The world came alive.”

Maria is keen to help others in her position adding, “Don’t wait. Life is much too short, and I don’t want to miss any part of it. Including its sounds.”

Milton’s knowledge of audiology was very limited, and her biggest concern was “finding my way to the right people that could and help me.”

Luckily, she was surrounded by her friends and family who could point her in the right direction. This made the decision easy as “SLENTs name kept coming up!”

Upon taking their advice and visiting SLENT, she was “very impressed” as the “people were very friendly and happy to help with any questions I asked!”

“Go for it! You won’t regret it.”

“I felt embarrassed and often sad that others didn’t understand my hearing loss was serious.

“When I asked them to repeat what they had said, several times, they would say never mind. This often left me wanting to cry.

“It’s a depressing experience knowing that others are not patient in understanding that it is real and it’s not just a habit to ask someone to repeat themselves.

“I often just agreed with what was said and never really understood them just for sake of embarrassment. I felt like it would all be just age-related, and nothing could be done.”

While Wendy was nervous to visit us at first, she was “impressed” with the service and is so glad she made the decision to do something about her hearing.

Since then, she is “not asking others to repeat themselves and not missing out”.

“If you want a very thorough hearing evaluation done by a caring, expert audiologist, consider SLENT”

“My wife had been ‘suggesting’ I have my hearing checked for well over a year. But I didn’t realize it had gotten so bad until I noticed having trouble understanding her during a meal one day.

“I didn’t feel surprised because my dad and two brothers suffered hearing loss. My biggest concern was finding the best quality of help I could get.

“I didn’t really have fears or concerns, because I did some research into SLENT’s doctors. As a result, I was confident I’d receive very good care.

“When I first arrived, I was greeted by a friendly receptionist before being seated in the waiting area. Dr. Marissa Corneille, Au.D. then brought me to her office and listened to me describe the issues I was having.

“She asked questions to obtain the best understanding of my hearing loss. Then she ran a series of hearing tests to thoroughly analyze the degree of loss.

“Following this, she explained what the results meant: what caused the loss, what issues were found, and the best way they could be corrected.

“I never felt pressured, but I did feel I was given sufficient information to make the right decision.

“One analogy that comes to mind is getting new eyeglasses to replace those 20-year-old lenses. Everything is suddenly sharp, clear, vivid, and nature is beautiful again.

“My hearing improvement was like that. I was amazed by how the clarity, quality, and range of my hearing had become.

“I especially appreciated how the richness and fullness of music was once again. I have absolutely no regrets having gotten hearing aids and the excellent help from SLENT.

“If you want a very thorough hearing evaluation done by a caring, expert audiologist, consider SLENT.

“If you want someone who patiently listens to your problem, explains what needs correction, and provides options to correct your hearing loss, consider SLENT.”
