Apple iOS 13 Update Causing Hearing Aid Connectivity Issues

On September 19 2019, Apple released its latest software update, iOS 13.

Most of the time, Apple tablets and cell phones automatically update when new software is available and usually this is a good thing, causing little issue.  However, this latest update is proving to be quite the disaster.

It was intended that the update would bring new features and improve the overall experience for users, but a number of errors and bugs were introduced and this has resulted in Apple’s support forums and Twitter being bombarded with complaints from disgruntled iPhone users who are reporting major problems with their Bluetooth functionality.

The key issue being that Bluetooth permissions are now required, meaning you have to give permission for your Apple product to connect to all external devices. It means not only do you have to have your Bluetooth turned on but you also have to give each of your apps permission to use your cell phone’s or tablets Bluetooth.

Problems have been reported by people wanting to connect their phone to their car stereo and also for connecting their wireless headphones to their Apple device. It has also caused huge issues with iPhones & tablets connecting to hearing aids.

Our patients have been contacting us to report issues believing their hearing aid to be the problem but please allow me to reassure you that the issue is with the software update.
