Kayla DeGeorge, Au.D.
Audiologist
Meet Kayla DeGeorge, Au.D.
Kayla was born and raised on the Northshore and graduated from Lakeshore High School. She received her undergraduate degree in speech-language pathology from the University of Montevallo in Montevallo, Alabama, followed by her Doctorate of Audiology from East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee.
Her passion for language and facilitating communication between people drew her to the field of communication sciences and disorders. Kayla decided to pursue a career as an audiologist because she believes that communication and social connections are fundamental to living a happy and healthy life, and communication starts with healthy hearing and hearing healthcare.
As an audiologist, Kayla’s day-to-day responsibilities are incredibly varied. She performs comprehensive examinations of the outer, middle, and inner ear as well as diagnoses hearing loss and other auditory disorders.
Kayla also cares for people experiencing balance challenges by performing assessments of the vestibular system, or the inner ear balance system. She develops appropriate treatment plans for these disorders, which may include the fitting/dispensing of hearing aids, providing aural rehabilitation, and counseling patients and their loved ones about hearing loss.
Kayla loves that her role as a hearing healthcare professional continues long after a patient is first fit with hearing aids and extends into life-long care. She performs follow-up care in the form of routine examinations, hearing aid programming adjustments, and troubleshooting issues to ensure that patients are hearing to the best of their ability.
Kayla strives to help our patients better connect with their loved ones and better interact with the world around them. Every day, she offers hands-on support and observes just how much someone’s quality of life can improve when their hearing loss is appropriately diagnosed and treated.
When she’s not in the office, Kayla enjoys exploring the abundance of local restaurants, festivals, and cultural experiences that can be found in South Louisiana. She also very much enjoys spending time with her family, watching Saints games, cooking, and traveling.
